Wildland Firefighting Jobs

Are wildland firefighting jobs something you dream about? Maybe you have been a volunteer firefighter or a student who is dreaming about their future and firefighting sounds exciting, dangerous and appealing to you. But how do you go about getting a job? You could contact your Forest Service district to see if they are recruiting fire personnel through the state or if they are direct hiring. There is no standardized application procedure from one region to another so hiring can be difficult. Inquiring about temporary jobs will get your 'foot in the door' in many cases and sometimes it is due to timing and good luck. Persistence is key if you want to be a wildland firefighter.
