Organizer For Small Firefighting Tools

firefighting toolsA problem for many firefighters is when they reach into the pockets of their bunker pants and find that a tool they need is not there because it may have already fallen on the ground.

One firefighter has recognized this problem with firefighting tools and has developed a small tool organizer. Firefighter Ron Kent designed the organizer that fits perfectly in the pocket of your bunker pants and will easily carry dikes, tin nips, wood shims, light sticks a window punch, a power handle or any other tool you wish to carry. You could make one yourself but Ron has gone to the trouble for you and seems to have gotten it right.

Firefighting Tools For Forcible Entry Situations

firefighting toolsThere are a number of essential firefighting tools a firefighter will need. For forcible entry situations one of the most important tools to carry is a Haligan Bar, flat headed axe, pick headed axe or multi-purpose screwdriver with removable tips. To gain entry into a door or window, to pry loose floorboards or to create ventilation you will need these tools for critical situations. Some of these tools will be used together to break out glass, find your way out of a building or to break down walls of wood or drywall. These items will be used to remove screws, bolts and other barriers that will block entry. There are of course many other tools but these four are essential tools used in a building fire in emergency situations.

Gloves - Important Firefighting Tools

If asked to name the most important firefighting tools or equipment many would leave gloves off their list. But a firefighters gloves are one of the most essential and fundamental elements to his entire gear. Any old gloves cannot be used in fighting fires no matter how good they are.

A firefighters gloves are rated by the NFDA for fighting structural and wilderness fires. The gloves have a protective moisture barrier and thermal barrier inside to protect the hands from heat, fire and injury. They should be easy to put on and take off for speed and efficiency in a fire event.

Most firefighting gloves today are made of some type of leather often combining two different leathers that make them durable, efficient and effective in repelling steam, hot water, heat and fire.

Firefighting Tools For Gaining Entry Into A Building

firefighting toolsA firefighting operation cannot begin until you gain entry into the burning structure. Different buildings require certain tools such as a hydraulic forcible entry tool. You may also need a torch, metal cutting saws or through the lock tools. Along with prying tools you will need striking tools such as a flat head axe, sledgehammer or maul. There have been tools produced that are effectively multiple tools in one. These are good in some cases but do not perform as well as individual tools. The tools and equipment you have should depend on your response district and the firefighters who will be using them. Each one plays an important role in the first phase of a firefighting incident.
